Last half term we were busy organising and delivering the school games indoor athletics competitions for years 5 & 6. On the 14th November the following primary schools took part in the 1st heat: St Marks Swanage, St Marys Swanage, Wareham St Mary, Corfe Castle, Bovington Primary and Bere Regis. 56 primary school students from Years 5 and 6 came to The Purbeck School to take part in a marvellous maths morning delivered by Year 12 A Level maths students. Primary students took part in four different workshops and had break time in the canteen. ‘It’s brilliant I like the measuring and treasure hunt activities,’ said Agnes from Lulworth and Winfrith Primary School Edward from St Marys RC Primary School in Swanage said, ‘It’s been lots of fun. Science Taster Lessons

Wednesday 13th November saw 71 Year 5 and 6 students arrive at The Purbeck School for Science taster lessons. The students and their parents conducted a number of different chemical reactions, witnessing colour changes and exothermic reactions. Lots of students left with a glittery PVA bouncy ball that they had made too. Our Science teachers took the chemical reactions one step further and demonstrated hydrogen rockets and set methanol alight in the explosive whoosh bottle experiment. Students...

Year 5 and 6 Sample Lessons Are Launched With A Bang!

On Wednesday 13th November the first of our monthly sample lessons was hosted by The Purbeck School Science Faculty. We welcomed 72 families into our Science labs to experiment with slime; to create hot and cold chemical reactions and to set off hydrogen rockets! Aspiring medical students from the sixth form delivered another successful ‘Human Body Workshop’ to students from St Marys RC Primary School in Swanage. Primary students from Year 3 to Year 6 heard all about the subjects you need to learn to become a doctor and then got a chance to investigate the workshops.

What a positive start we have had to the Purbeck Education Partnership sporting calendar. After a very productive meeting an extensive sporting programme was finalised with activities involving Years 1-6. The events ‘kicked off’ with an U11 Boys football tournament, this was represented by 7 of our partnership schools and was an excellent competition. Purbeck School students delivered another successful marvellous maths event to 60 of our partnership primary school students. Primary students took part in a morning of fun maths activies delivered by mathematicians in years 11, 12 and 13. The busy morning also included time for a pizza in Purbeck Schools new canteen. Primary students from our Partnership Primary school came to Purbeck for another successful Marvellous Maths event hosted this time by some of our very own marvellous Year 9’s and year 12’s. Year 9 student Jasmine said ‘It brings year 9 together as a team.’ Charlotte from St Marys RC Primary School in Swanage ‘enjoyed getting to learn more about maths’. On the 25th June The Purbeck School PE Department hosted a year 4 and 5 athletics competition for all partnership schools. It was excellent to see that all schools took part in this opportunity which involved over 140 pupils from these year groups. Parents were also welcomed to come and watch. The competition consisted of all pupils taking part in 3 events, 1 track event, 1 field event with everyone involved in the relay.
