On Tuesday 12th July, members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra visited The Purbeck School to work with musically talented students from the Purbeck Primary Schools together with students from The Purbeck School. During the day, students composed their own piece of music based on a short musical motif which was later named, ‘Prime Chime (Shimmering Water)’ and performed it to parents at the end of the day. This week student ambassadors from Bournemouth University have been at The Purbeck School to work with groups of Year 6 students to teach them all about university life. Their key message (which they get students to shout at them) is that university is for ANYONE! Students from our primary partnership schools came to The Purbeck School to take part in Marvellous Forest Maths. They spent the morning outside working on maths problems with some of our Year 9 maths students. School Games rowing qualifier

This week a number of Year 7-9 students have been undertaking a rowing challenge to see how far they can row in a specific time. We had over 120 students take up the challenge. The aim was to compete in a virtual competition against the other schools in our partnership, The grange, Twynham and Highcliffe, all based in Christchurch. Year 7 had to row continuously for 2 minutes, Year 8 for 3 minutes and Year 9 for 4 minutes. It doesn’t sound like much but when your giving your all it is exhausting...

Talented Year 5 students from our partnership primary schools took part in a fabulous day of music and drama delivered by The Performance Arts Faculty at The Purbeck School. Year 5 students were certainly talented. Their musician and drama skills were outstanding and after only a couple of hours of rehearsal they staged an entertaining performance of Snow White for their parents and carers. Well its been a busy half term with competitions in all directions. Festivals, finals and schools games qualifiers to name a few. Yr 3/4 Tag Rugby Festival We ended last half term with a year 3/4 tag rugby festival which was attended by a number of our primary schools. Each school as invited to bring 10 year 3 or 4 pupils to take part in a festival which consisted of an hours coaching followed by an hour of games. On Wednesday 10th February 2016, with the help of Zoë (a native Chinese student from Harrow House) and Alex (our language assistant) we hosted a fantastic celebratory ‘Chinese New Year morning’ (Year of the Monkey) for 16 Year 5 students, coming from our feeder primary schools and what a busy morning it was! A first for some of our Year 9 maths students who hosted a Marvellous Maths session for some of our Partnership Primary Schools’ Year 5 and 6 students. Year 9, and the maths problems themselves, proved very popular. Hurray, another dry Thursday afternoon enabling me to deliver the U11 netball tournament for the Dorset School Games. Eight teams entered and were all raring to go, and after the warm ups and a few post issues we were off. The schools were split into two pools where they each played three games. High 5 netball is an interesting version of netball where all players have to follow strict rotations which mean even though they may be winning in one half of the match the next half may alter dramatically...
