Carey Camp 2017 April was a quiet month with regards to competition thankfully, as so far this year has been pretty manic. So we thought it would be nice to deliver our first ever activity day. So another busy month had by the partnership with CPD and PE coordinator training, a second young leaders academy, and a number of sporting events to boot. We started the month with the Year 5 and 6 School Games tag rugby tournament where the top two teams would go onto represent the Purbeck area in the School Games final on the 5th April at the Leaf Academy. I would like to say that after a busy month in January we had chilled out a little on the sports front with the primary schools, but NO, this month has been just as busy with some excellent performances and some fantastic leadership triumphs. The first event we were faced with was the delivery of the Year 5 and 6 Netball competition which was a school games qualifier; the winning school would go on to represent the Purbeck area in the School Games Final in April. A quiet start to the month competition wise, but we started with a bang with training opportunities for teachers. Tag rugby was on offer on the first week back, closely followed by an active numeracy course aimed at KS1 and 2 which was delivered by Denise May MBE. This was really well attended and the following day we were lucky enough to have Denise deliver another course, this time to our PE leads in school. As many of you are aware The Purbeck School work closely with the Christchurch Secondary Schools to deliver a range of activities to our primary schools ranging from leadership academies to Multi Skills festivals, Dance festivals to Watersports festivals. Thus giving them a number of sporting opportunities throughout the year which they would otherwise be denied. Purbeck Leadership Academy On the 4th November we ran the 6th Purbeck Leadership Academy. The event just keeps growing and growing; this year not only did all twelve of our own primary schools attend but we also had three other schools join us from within Dorset. Furthermore we had the pleasure of having a representative from the Youth Sports Trust to come and see how our leadership academy works. On Wednesday 9th November over one hundred Year 5 and 6 students from many of our partner primary schools visited The Purbeck School for an afternoon taster session in Computing. The students, enjoyed coding using Micro: bits to create small games. The students approached each task with curiosity and an open mind. Year 5 and 6 Mixed Football We started the month of October with a bit of a change on the weather; it suddenly turned pretty chilly so unfortunately that meant we had to stand out in the cold wind for two hours whilst delivering the first football tournament of the season. Again an impressive turnout of 8 teams with squads of approximately 10, resulting in 80 pupils across the pyramid participating in an event. Students from the Primary Partnership Schools came to The Purbeck School to take part in Marvellous Maths workshop. The workshop was delivered by The Purbeck School sixth form A-Level Maths students. Parents of the primary school students were invited to take part in the Maths workshops too. Students and parents really enjoyed the sessions and were impressed with the sixth formers Maths skills.

This year has started with a bang, we have already delivered two inclusive events for years 3, 4, 5 and 6. With a whole programme of activities up until December. We started this term with a Year 5 and 6 Inclusive Festival. Eight out of our 12 feeder schools attended, which meant that over 80 pupils were taking part.
