Swanage St Mark’s CE Primary School

St. Mark’s CE Primary School is located on the western outskirts of Swanage, an attractive resort on the Dorset World Heritage coast, an area renowned for its natural beauty and interest.

The school, originally called Herston School, was founded in 1855 and located between the Herston residential streets of Bell Street and Jubilee Road.  In autumn 2014 St Mark’s relocated to spacious new accommodation in the High Street on the site of the former Swanage Middle School.   Situated in a parkland setting of eight acres the school has a total of seven classrooms, which are light, spacious and well equipped.  There is also a large playing field with an adventure playground and a habitat area.  There is an onsite independent pre-school known as ‘Little Birds’.

St Mark’s is well resourced with high quality teaching and support staff.  The school boasts enviable IT resources which are used to both support learning and enrich the national curriculum, developing students who have a thirst for learning.

We are a small Church of England Primary School linking closely with the Parish Church and Diocese of Salisbury.  Being part of the Christian family greatly influences all aspects of school life.

We currently have children aged 4 to 11 years.  St. Mark’s Parish Church is near to the school and children often visit St. Mark’s for services and other related activities.

Above all we are a purposeful, safe and happy school where children love to learn.  Prospective parents and their children are welcome to visit St. Mark’s and see how we strive towards ”Opening the doors for the journey of life” for all our children.
