Following the success of the inaugural meeting of the Purbeck Primary School Council last year, a new PPSC, consisting of 20 Year 6 representatives from our feeder primary schools, met on Friday afternoon to begin their iNet and SSAT Student Council training.
Working alongside members of the Purbeck School Student Council, our PPSC members looked at a number of different aspects of organising and running a successful Student Council. From the skills required to be an effective representative, to writing their own constitutions, the students involved worked brilliantly together to share ideas and develop the skills they would ultimately pass on to other students in their respective schools.
Our new members left the session having completed ‘Module 2’ of this challenging programme. These students will now return to train their Student Council peers, thereby distributing the knowledge and transferring the skills originally developed in the Purbeck School Student Council.
Students left the Purbeck School at the end of the afternoon with smiling faces and comments such as…
‘That was great fun – I’ve learnt lots and now I’m ready to teach all the other people in my Student Council’ – Will
‘I really enjoyed my afternoon at the Purbeck School’ – Paris
‘I was really excited about this afternoon and I certainly wasn’t disappointed!’ – Ben
On behalf of the Purbeck School students involved, please could I take this opportunity to thank the new PPSC members who worked so well during the afternoon and contributed so many excellent ideas along with the adults who brought the students to the Purbeck School and also transported them home at the end. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Next Meeting: Tuesday 8th May 2015
