Outside it might have been wet and wild but it certainly was worth the journey as students from local primary schools arrived for afternoon taster sessions in both Music and Drama on Wednesday 5th February.
In Drama after some good humoured competitive fun during a fast paced game of ‘Splat’ a double victory to the girls was declared. Students then went on to expose those well-honed skills of persuasion as they offered to make mugs of tea, wash-up and tidy bedrooms all in the hope of persuading mum or dad to let them have a pet. Students practical exploration continued by creating in groups of six, freeze frames which showed our child pinching a penguin from the local zoo on a school trip. Despite best attempts to hide this new found pet out final scenes showed our mums and dads uncovering this new addition to the household. Performances were fantastic and the Purbeck Hall alive with laughter, energy and creativity.
The sound of music was certainly in the air in the LRC as groups of primary school pupils and their parents learnt about the importance of warming up your voice and how to sing in 3 parts. During warm-ups everybody practised catching flies, found out that Bob’s got a head like a ping pong ball and exhausted themselves standing up and sitting down whilst singing My Bonnie lies over the ocean. This was before we even got to around to singing the song!
Voices and bodies warmed up we then sang a mash-up of three popular songs which were sung fantastically well with brilliant diction, volume and enthusiasm. A fabulous introduction to singing at The Purbeck School!
