On Monday afternoon, The Purbeck School hosted St Mary’s Swanage, St George’s Langton Matravers, Corfe Primary and Wareham St Mary for our 2018 launch of the joint network reading group. Students from year 6 joined some of our year 7 students and enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon in our library where they were introduced to the award winning book ‘The Graveyard Book’ by Neil Gaiman.
It was a real pleasure to see students from the different schools working enthusiastically together through a series of activities: finding definitions of key words; making predictions about what was going to happen in the novel; discussing ideas like ‘what happens to you once you have died’ and ‘do you believe in ghosts’.
After a quick break for biscuits, students started getting stuck into the first chapters and left excited to continue their reading of this gripping book at home.
We look forward to welcoming all these schools back later this year where we can find out what the students thought about this novel.
A very special thanks to Eirinn Harris, Justin Page, Reuben Adams, Ellie Bailey and Faith Masters who were excellent ambassadors for the school.
