So September has come and gone rather quickly and the partnership has again been thrown head first into an extensive activity programme. Luckily the weather has been on our side and all events have been a huge success.
Our first event was the year 5 and 6 inclusive festival, where 10 pupils from each school were invited to come and take part in a number of sporting activities. The festival was aimed at pupils that may have needed a little more support in PE with its aim to give them some more confidence and to show then that actually PE is fun and they ‘can do’.
The activities that were on offer included handball, non-stop cricket, team building activities, Boccia and sitting volleyball.
The schools were mixed up so that they were working with different schools as they rotated which helped them to think about teamwork and developing their confidence with communication skills.
As the afternoon progressed it was evident that the pupils were having a great time with lots of new skills being learnt and lots of fun being had. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all.
The second event was a similar event but was aimed this time at years 3 and 4. This time the weather was lovely so we took them outside and as a result the activities were adapted to suit.
The aim of the afternoon was the same as the Year 5 and 6 festival, and again it was lovely to see 80 pupils from across the partnership experiencing PE in a different light, being able to develop their communication skills, and realising that what they were doing was enjoyable and valuable in helping them to develop personal skills.
The activities that the Year 3s and 4s took part in included athletic relays, ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’, handball, team building activities and Boccia amongst others.
I always love delivering these festivals, as seeing the satisfaction and delight on the participants’ faces is fantastic and certainly rewarding in itself.
