This week student ambassadors from Bournemouth University have been at The Purbeck School to work with groups of Year 6 students to teach them all about university life. Their key message (which they get students to shout at them) is that university is for ANYONE! The sessions have made many students think about whether university would be something that they wish to pursue. Students are asked to reflect upon what school has taught them so far and then to think about what the next stage in their learning, secondary school, might teach them. Many very exciting careers have been chosen by the students from sports coaching, orthodontics, law and drama and music. Students have been amazed to learn that there are over 37,000 university courses in Britain alone and to find out about the fantastic clubs and societies that you can join as an undergraduate. After each session students are asked to feed back their impressions of university life- the vast majority have concluded that university is ‘cool’!
