Feb 27 in The Purbeck School Written by: Nicky Marsh
This term we have been doing some extensive work with our partnership schools. We have hosted two indoor athletics competitions, one providing for our own middle schools and the other for the partnership winners, this enabled us to select a team for the winter school games at Canford. The athletics was an excellent event with over 60 pupils taking part. Sandford were victorious and they will represent Purbeck/Christchurch in the games.
We have also hosted a rowing competition for Years 7, 8 and 9 from Purbeck School and our partner Middle Schools; the results from this competition were then collaborated with the Christchurch results virtually and the winners again will be attending the Winter Games. Our Year 9 boys had an excellent time, but were unfortunately beaten by 2 tenths of a second by Twynham.
Many of our students have also had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills this half term. Spencer Owens and Tom Christopher attended a Step Into Sport workshop, where they were introduced into the world of disability sport and how they could lead certain sports. As a result of this workshop they have been selected to attend a National Conference at Loughborough University in March to develop these skills further.
A number of girls have also attended a number of leadership courses to enable them to lead and officiate a number of competitions. Most recently they have attended a High 5 Netball course in readiness for a High 5 competition on the 13th March. These same students have been selected to meet and greet at the Young Ambassadors conference on the 14th February when the county’s young ambassadors come together for further training . These students are:
Ashleigh Taylor, Ebony Hayes, Mikayla Curtis, Tilly Ferguson, Lauren Hunt and Lucie Dibben.
Also a special mention of Charlie Gynes and Callum Howlett for volunteering their time to referee the Year 5 tag rugby tournament at Wareham St Marys last week. An excellent job.
