A ‘Wonder’ful Day!

On Monday afternoon, The Purbeck School hosted Corfe Castle, Wareham St Mary, Bovington and Wool primary schools for our first ever joint reading group in our Library. Students from year 5 joined some of our year 7 students and enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon where they were introduced to the award winning book ‘Wonder’ by R. J Palacio.

It was a real pleasure to see students from the different schools working enthusiastically together through a series of activities: creating 10 minute theatrical performances; competing to make the highest post-it note ‘opinion tower’ and undertaking a fact finding treasure through our LRC where they learned all about Treacher Collins syndrome. After a quick break for biscuits, students started getting stuck into the first chapters and left excited to continue their reading at home…

We are really happy to welcome all of these students back later this term to found out what they thought of the first book and we have plans to continue the success of this reading group all through next academic year! It was fantastic to see such a large group of students so enthusiastic about reading.
